Why Is WWOZ Important to New Orleans?
Since its inception, WWOZ has been more than just a radio station. It is a cornerstone of New Orleans culture, committed to showcasing local musicians and preserving the city’s iconic sounds. Broadcasting genres like jazz, blues, brass band, gospel, Cajun, zydeco, and more, WWOZ captures the essence of New Orleans' musical soul.
WWOZ’s reach extends far beyond the Crescent City. The WWOZ online broadcast attracts a global audience 24/7, with over half a million monthly website hits. Recognized as one of the top ten radio websites, WWOZ connects people worldwide to the music and culture of New Orleans.
Why We Support WWOZ
Supporting organizations that align with our values is a cornerstone of Accidental Cajun Experiences, and WWOZ does just that. We are both dedicated to celebrating and preserving the unique cultural fabric of New Orleans.
When you hear our message on WWOZ, you’re hearing about more than just tours. We’re offering a deeply personal way to experience New Orleans, guided by someone who has lived and breathed its culture. Whether you’re drawn to its music, cuisine, or hidden stories, our curated tours immerse you in the city’s authentic charm. Like WWOZ, we are passionate about connecting people with the real New Orleans.
Shared Commitment: Culture, Cuisine, and Community
Our slogan, "Culture. Cuisine. Community. Above Ground, Below Sea Level," is both a mission statement, and a playful take on two of our most prominent topographic features, our cemeteries and our slightly sunken city. In our minds, it was partly inspired by WWOZ’s slogan of “Live, Local Music.” In a few words it wells you everything. But it is more than a catchphrase. It is our way of describing the things that make the city special. Just as WWOZ amplifies the voices of local musicians, Accidental Cajun Experiences connect visitors with the city's unique culture in meaningful ways.
By supporting WWOZ, we’re not only supporting local music but also inviting listeners to step into a world of unforgettable experiences. Together, we’re fostering a deeper appreciation for New Orleans’ past, present, and future.
