Tandoori, turmeric, and a touch of New Orleans soul – LUFU’s version of comfort food.

New Orleans is known for gumbo, jambalaya, and beignets. But there’s something stirring beyond the usual suspects.

Indian food.

A City of Palates

New Orleans has always been a city shaped by migration. French, Spanish, African, Haitian, Vietnamese, Sicilian. We eat like our history - layered, spicy, and never in a straight line.

In recent years, another flavor has been claiming space on the table: Indian. Not the butter chicken buffet kind - but regional, thoughtful, chef-led dishes that feel just as rooted in soul as anything you'll find on a brass band playlist.

LUFU NOLA: From Pop-Up to Powerhouse

LUFU started as a pop-up with a point of view. Chef Amrita created menus inspired by Indian street food, but cooked with the heart and hustle of New Orleans. Think tandoori shrimp over local greens. Masala grits. A curry that smells like your cousin's house after a rainstorm.

Locals showed up. Tourists stumbled in. Word spread. And now, LUFU has a permanent home - a place where culture collides in the best possible way.

LUFU NOLA – where the city's food future is being written one dish at a time.

Why This Matters

It’s not about fusion for the sake of trend. It’s about honoring heritage while letting it breathe. That’s the beauty of food in New Orleans. The city doesn’t just make room for new voices. It asks them to sing.

Where to Try It

Whether it's LUFU or another global kitchen tucked between corner stores and shotgun houses, we make it a point to feature what’s real on our tours. That includes the unexpected. Because New Orleans is still writing its food story. And you’re invited to the table.
